About The Current Senate President

Godswill Akpabio

The Current Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is Godswill Akpabio. He is a well-known Nigerian politician connected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and was born on December 9, 1962, in Ukana, Ikot Ntuen, Essien Udim, Nigeria.

His career has been varied, encompassing positions as an educator, attorney, and member of the telecom sector. He was the governor of Akwa Ibom State from 2007 to 2015, after which he decided to be part of the legislative body of Nigeria.

On June 13, 2023, he was sworn in as the President of the Nigerian Senate after being elected as a Senator for the Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District.

He secured 63 votes to win the election. Throughout his political career, Akpabio has switched from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives (APC).

During his tenure as governor, he was the subject of allegations of corruption and probes into purported financial embezzlement.

Notwithstanding these difficulties, Akpabio continues to be a prominent player in Nigerian politics, occupying important posts and contributing significantly to the legislative landscape of the nation.
